Beer and excercise

Almost exactly a month after we learnt that drinking beer makes you clever, a Spanish boffin has proved that the golden grog is also better at rehydrating the human body after excercise.

Manuel J Castillo Garzón, Professor of Human Physiology from Spain's University of Granada, got a bunch of students to run around in temperatures of 40°C then gave half of them a half-pint of beer while the rest got the same amount of water.

The Spanish prof reckons the bubbles and carbohydrates in beer help quench the thirst and replace lost calories, according to The Telegraph.

Beer starter

Not quite a 'man walks into pub' joke but it made me laugh.  I guess you could apply it to a landlord situation.

A man came home from work, sat down in his favourite chair, turned on the TV, and said to his wife, “Quick, bring me a beer before it starts”
She looked a little puzzled, but brought him a beer
When he finished it, he said, “Quick, bring me another beer. Its going to start”
This time she looked a little angry, but brought him a beer. When it was gone he said, “Quick, bring me another beer before it starts”
“That’s it!” she blows her top, “You bstard, you waltz in here, sit your fat *rse down, you don’t even say hello to me, and then you expect me to run around like your slave getting you beer after beer. Don’t you realise that I cook, clean, wash and iron for you all day long?”

The husband sighed and said, “Oh s*it, its started”

Beer will not help you forget!

According to a report in Scientific American, moderate amounts of beer consumption may improve recall.  This could be a problem if you are drinking to drown your sorrows or forget something.   Mind you, they seem to have only tested this on rats.  How many rats do you think drink beer because they are emotionally traumatised?  I suspect not many.

Anyway, for a full and complete analysis of this shocking news go to the article at...

Beer necessities

A bear with a taste for beer and a discerning one at that, managed to get into a campsite in Washington State and drink 36 cans of beer.  He tried the mass market Busch beer but in the end decided that the Rainer was more to his natural liking.

Police and rangers later captured the beer after seeting a trap that included honey, doughnuts and more Rainier beer.

Marvellous.
